Ikandi Dread Wig Maintenance

Posted by admin on Oct 22, 2009 in All Dread Posts!, Dreads At Work | 2 comments

iKandi’s been offering dread wigs since we first opened. However lately I am getting more and more orders for them so I figured I should write a little maintenance blog so people understand how to keep their wig looking natural and beautiful! First I’ll give a breakdown of my wigs for the first time wig wearers. I always, always, use wigs that come equipped with a skin top part. This means the top of your wig will have a part down the middle, or the side (whichever you prefer), and it makes it look drastically more realistic. Also, there is always an option for bangs or no bangs. I try to give out as many options as possible. The possibilities are endless with wigs,...

One Day It’ll Be Me!

Posted by admin on Jun 22, 2009 in All Dread Posts!, Dreads At Work | Comments Off

So June 6th was the start of the Premier Orlando Hair Show! I went for one out of the 2 days I got free tickets to. The free tickets made me kind of glad that they screwed me over last year on an extensions class. Last year I signed up to be certified in So.Cap Fusion Extensions. Originally I was going for the cheaper class =P BUT the day I showed up, they told me they weren’t holding classes that day, even though I had already paid for my class and my ticket said that particular date on it….long story short, I got free tickets for this year’s show instead of a refund…Hey, works for me. I got certified with the company I wanted to in the end anyway.  So.Cap is...

Our dreads are generally made to be very durable. However there are those out there that love to style their dreads in crazy ways, tying lots of knots in your dreads can sometimes cause bumps after long wear. There are a few easy things you can do so you don’t have to send them back to be resealed. Many customers won’t have this problem at all, but if you do,There is nothing that will seal your dreads better than heat with moisture, which is why the steam method is the best way to seal and reseal your dreads. Natural Dreads 101

Posted by admin on May 26, 2009 in All Dread Posts!, Dreads At Work | Comments Off

I want to make it known that I do not work in salon. I have no where to do a natural dread set unless I know you personally and you come to my house. I can give you tips and hints and full instructions on how to form and maintain your dreadlocks, but I cannot do them for anyone. Now that that’s out of the way. Here’s how to form your natural dreadlocks. Take a 1in section of your hair to start with. It doesn’t really matter if you start from the top or bottom but I recommend starting from the bottom at the nape of your neck and pulling down hair from a clip or tie for new rows. Once you have your section take out your backcombing comb and start teasing...

Placenta in your Hair?!

Posted by admin on May 19, 2009 in All Dread Posts!, Dreads At Work | Comments Off

Hey I think it’s time for another general hair care tip post. After wearing your dread extensions you may want to get a trim because the rubber bands or ties tend to break your ends a little bit. Usually you can solve this with a quick trip to the salon for a trim but if you don’t have time for that or are like me and hate going to the salons then this blog is for you! Many people experience dry hair and dry ends after wearing dreads, a simple conditioning treatment can usually solve this problem and here are two products I highly, highly recommend if you find yourself having a breakage problem. Hask Placenta! This amazing and easy quick hair treatment is...

Radio and Cancer

So for as a favor I filled in to interview Canadian rock band Silverstein a couple weeks ago. That was pretty fun, got to talk to the bassist. If you haven’t already go check them out and more of music like theirs at http://www.krradio.com/ . It’s a music streaming website and you can join for free to listen to music. :) We’ve come a long way from Napster. Haha Anyway, on to more important matters. I’ve been thinking about this for a while now and I think I’m ready to make it happen. I know a woman who works at Arnold Palmer Hospital and we were talking about it and it would be a great idea to boost the self esteem of kids with cancer. There...

NEW! Ikandi Hair Blog!

Posted by admin on Apr 9, 2009 in All Dread Posts!, Dreads At Work | Comments Off

iKandi Hair Design.com is an Orlando based home business. All dreads are handmade by me, Katie. :) Making dreads is a fairly easy job yet very time consuming and tedious process, so when I get the questions about how to make them I usually say, trust me, you’d much rather just have them made for you…Also it takes a few sloppy dread sets made before you to really get the technique down so they don’t fall apart. I still have 2-3 dreads from the first set I ever made hahah kind of a sentimental thing I suppose, I wear them just about every time I wear my dreads at all. If you’re highly allergic to cats or dogs I don’t recommend buying from me...
